Our dedication to minimal stress on the animal starts from conception, through to the birth of the calf, and then right though to its final stages. Our farmers are screened and trained on our welfare policy, to ensure that our animals are treated with utmost respect and fed only the very best of grass feed and clean water. We ensure our animals are raised as close to the abattoirs as possible to reduce travel stress. We personally load and monitor these cattle through the whole process, and test for PH levels to ensure the animal is at its best quality possible.

Full traceability is extremely important to both us as a company, but also our customers. Through a very innovative program, Maple and Marble are front footing the traceability aspect in NZ and implementing a full DNA screening ability to ensure both you as the customer, and us as a company know the origins and authenticity of the meat at any time.

Here at Maple and Marble, we ensure that we use every part of the animal possible. We do this by providing whole animals to our domestic and export customers, and also to our members of the public by way of supplying quarter beasts through our online store. We also create value add products to turn secondary cuts, into high end beef products.

We chose the Speckle Park breed very carefully. The Speckle Park animal if raised using the right values and given the respect they deserve, produces a very high-end beef product. Our advantage of owning the genetics, allows us to provide an extremely high end product with guaranteed consistency.

Meet The Team

Scotty Cochrane

Co-Founder and Director

Scotty, originally from South Taranaki, developed a strong interest for farming early in life. He and his wife Jeannie currently own and operate SJC Speckle Park on a third generation sheep and beef farm in Oreti Plains, Central Southland.
